Fetherston Gardens is an urban parkland oasis tucked away in Weston Creek. The gardens were originally part of the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) School of Horticulture that was located on the site. The school opened in 1974 and its gardens were named after the first and longest serving Head of Horticulture, Tony Fetherston, who inspired their planning.
The school closed in 2009 and the gardens ceased being a purpose-built educational facility. Then in 2010, the ACT Government set the gardens aside for use by the Weston Creek community.
The Fetherston Gardens Friends
- are the volunteers who have restored these beautiful gardens
- formed over 10 years ago to return Fetherston Gardens to its former glory for the use of our local community
- ensure the legacy of these gardens is maintained
- continue the tradition of maintaining informal and diverse gardens and promoting horticultural education and knowledge
- coordinate community participation in the re-development of the gardens through regular working bees and fund raising
- preserve, maintain, clear and mulch the gardens and plant new trees, shrubs and bulbs.
Many of the new plantings in these gardens have been donated by volunteers and local interest groups, or supported by grants and fundraising activities.
We thank these individuals and groups for their generosity.
